OPGW (Optical fiber composite overhead ground wire) is a composite cable that integrates power-line grounding protection with high-speed fiber-optic communication into a single product. Installed at the top of high-voltage transmission towers, it replaces traditional ground wires to provide lightning shielding while its built-in optical fibers deliver high-capacity, low-latency communication channels for power utilities. This integrated design eliminates the need for separate communication cable installations, substantially reducing construction costs and land usage, making OPGW an indispensable infrastructure component in smart grids and EHV/UHV transmission projects.

    OPGW serves simultaneously as a ground wire and a communication cable, providing lightning protection while delivering high-speed data transmission, eliminating the need for separate fiber installation and saving investment and corridor resources.

    With stranded metallic layers of aluminum-clad steel or aluminum alloy, OPGW offers excellent tensile strength to withstand typhoons, ice accretion, long-span crossings, and other extreme conditions, ensuring long-term operational safety.

    The optical fibers are protected inside stainless-steel tubes, shielding them from high-voltage interference and lightning strikes. This ensures clear, stable data flow for essential grid operations including remote protection, system control, and real-time monitoring.

    Fiber count, tensile strength, and short-circuit current capacity can be tailored to project requirements, making OPGW suitable for a wide range of applications including 110 kV and above transmission lines, river-crossing long spans, and renewable energy integration.

    The integrated metallic structure, combined with rigorous factory testing standards, ensures a design service life of over 30 years with minimal maintenance requirements throughout its entire lifecycle.
